Oracle Corp’s chief executive Larry Ellison has reportedly had his other take-over bid rebuffed

Ellison, whose company is gunning for PeopleSoft Inc, was in the market for five-time Superbowl winners the San Francisco 49ers, but club owners Denise Debartolo York and husband John York apparently told the flamboyant Ellison, a yachting enthusiast who competes in the Americas Cup, that the club is not for sale.

Ellison, one of the tech industry’s richest men, is reported to have his heart set on owning a sporting franchise, though, and has shifted his attention to California’s other well-known metropolis, Los Angeles. Ellison is likely to be out of the football game, though, as LA lost its only major team, The Raiders, to Oakland, next door to San Francisco, some years ago.
