Oak Tree Interview Q3: Why ‘Oak Tree’?
Today we are featuring questions and answers from an interview that I’ve done this week with Rebecca Monson from Oak Tree Foundation (the recipients of donations that you our wonderful readers will give through this blogathon). The full interview will be posted throughout the day on the About Oak Tree Foundation Category
DR: Why did you choose the name ‘Oak Tree Foundation’?
RM: An oak tree originates from a tiny acorn, and is a powerful image of growth and development. With a firm foundation of support and nourishment, an acorn can take root and grow into a mighty tree, and in turn, produce more acorns. This image represents the potential of young people, which may be unleashed through education and empowerment.
This metaphor has really been true of the Oaktree. We have grown rapidly, but our roots are sinking deeply as we learn from our experiences and draw on the support of our mentors. We have branched out and planted seeds into schools, universities and churches, not only throughout Australia but overseas as well.
