About

Do you have a blog? Would you like it to find new readers? Do you ever run out of topics to blog about? Would you like to ‘meet’ other bloggers and work together on posting on the same themes?

If so - Blogger Idol is for you.

Blogger Idol is a way of meeting new bloggers, being creative, celebrating diversity and having a bit of fun.

The concept is simple.

Each week a theme is nominated and sent via email to each participating blogger who then has 5 days to submit a blog post on the topic at hand. They do this simply by writing a post on their own blog with a link to the week’s central page. They notify us at Blogger Idol HQ of their post title and a short description and we post the details on a central page for all participants to see.

‘Entries’ can be absolutely anything. We’ve had poems, photos, rants, stories, single words, link collections, short pieces, longer essays, personal experiences, fictional pieces, interviews - you name it - if you can put it on your blog you can submit it.

We end up with the most amazing array of posts on the same theme for us now to ‘judge’. We use the word ‘judge’ loosely - there is actually no winner of Blogger Idol - rather we invite you to peruse the submissions of fellow participants and to find a few that resonate with you which you then ‘nominate’ as your favorites for the week. You nominate your favorites on your own blog and will also be able to do so on a central page at Blogger HQ.

All this happens within a 7 day period - at the end of which you’ll be sent another theme for the process to start all over again with.

The original Blogger Idol concept was dreamed up by Darren Rowse over at LivingRoom where it first ran for 17 weeks (see the archives here) - but it is a concept that has evolved (and hopefully improved) with the help of over 120 participants in the project.

Since the first season of blogger idol came to an end in June 2004 Darren has been constantly asked by bloggers to kick it off again. As a result this new blog, solely dedicated to Blogger Idol has been born. This time around things will be more interactive. We’ll setting up polls for you to vote on upcoming themes - there will be pages for you to nominate your favorite entries and opportunities for participants to contribute in other ways.

Stay tuned for Season 2 of Blogger Idol!
