After running substantially behind schedule, the athlete’s village has finally been handed over to Melbourne 2006 by developer, the Village Park Consortium, late on Wednesday.
The $6million in bank guarantees is expected to be processed within the next couple of days.
The handover was made with only 49 days before the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Australian Swimming sensation and five time Olympic gold medalist, Ian Thorpe, has announced his plans to retire from the sport after the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The Commonwealth Games in Melbourne will be the swimmers first major competition since the 2004 Athens Olympics which will see him compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
