Aboriginal anger to touch opening of Games
For some, the Sydney Games, rather than testament to racial harmony, were a missed opportunity. According to the fairytale moment of Cathy Freeman lighting the Olympic Cauldron in Sydney, it signalled a moment of unification between Australians, white and black, unfolding before a global audience.
The Black GST are organising a mass camp and a march to coincide with the opening of the Commonwealth Games in the attempt to ensure that the money allocated to indigenous Australians isn’t just a one off payment to supress their voices during the country’s time on the world stage.
