Scotland win Gold in Women’s 50m Rifle Prone

Sheena Sharp has won the Gold medal for Scotland in the Women’s 50m Rifle Prone. New Zealand’s Juliet Etherington has gone one better than her Bronze in Manchester to take silver and Johanne Brekke from Wales has won the bronze medal.

David Phelps from Wales has won the Gold Medal for Wales in the Men’s 50m Rifle Prone. Mike Babb from England has won the Silver Medal and Sanjeev Rajput from India has won the bronze medal.

Wales win gold in Women’s 63kg Weightlifting

Michaela Alica Breeze has won Wales first Gold Medal of the XVIII Commonwealth Games with Canada adding another Silver and Bronze medal thanks to Christine Girard and Miel McGerrigle.

England Takes out Men’s 50m Rifle Prone

Mike Babb and Chris Hector have shot themselves into the Gold Medal position in the Men’s 50m Rifle Prone event at the Commonwealth Games. Scotland’s Martin Sinclair and Neil Stirton won the silver while Gruffudd Morgan and David Phelps from Wales picked up the bronze.

Australia Own the Track

Australia have cleaned up on the Cycling Track tonight with the latest medal coming in the form of Gold in the Men’s Points Race won by Sean Finning. Silver was claimed by Hayden Roulston of New Zealand while the Bronze went to Geraint Thomas of Wales.

Cooke suffers Games injury scare

Commonwealth cycling champion Nicole Cooke has suffered another setback in the build-up to defending her crown in Melbourne.
The 22 year old crashed in a World Cup race in New Zealand and was lucky to escape with just cuts and bruising.

Thomas out of Games

Iwan Thomas took one more step towards retirement when he withdrew from the Wales team for next week’s Commonwealth Games. The 32-year-old, who was to have run in the 400 metres and 4×400m relay is said to have a hamstring injury.

Record for Shalders in tune-up for Games

TRIPLE JUMPER Steve Shalders improved the Welsh record to 16.39m at the UK Athletics Indoor City Challenge final at Sheffield yesterday.

BOXER Robert Ellery and powerlifter Glen Puxley have both withdrawn from the Team Wales squad in Melbourne.
