England win Gold in Men’s 100m Freestyle

In the event that was missing Ian Thorpe, the Australian men again failed to make the medals with the 3 guys only making 5, 6 and 7. England’s Simon Burnett took the gold while South Africa took Silver and Bronze thanks to Ryk Neethling and Roland Schoeman.

Thorpe’s Games chances sinking with virus scare

Australian swimmer Iam Thorpe has been spending more time resting than training during the last week as he battles to overcome a bad case of bronchitis.
One of the big drawcards for the Commonwealth Games, Thorpe will race in the 100m and 200m freestyle.

Ian Thorpe to retire afte Beijing 2008

Australian Swimming sensation and five time Olympic gold medalist, Ian Thorpe, has announced his plans to retire from the sport after the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The Commonwealth Games in Melbourne will be the swimmers first major competition since the 2004 Athens Olympics which will see him compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
