Australian Swimming sensation and five time Olympic gold medalist, Ian Thorpe, has announced his plans to retire from the sport after the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The Commonwealth Games in Melbourne will be the swimmers first major competition since the 2004 Athens Olympics which will see him compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
Paralympic Swimmer Matt Walker has been selected to compete in the EAD events at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne which will give him the opportunity to add to his gold and two silver medals that he won for Great Britain at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.
