Sophie Edington and Giaan Rooney have won the Gold and Silver medals for Australia in the Women’s 100m Backstroke. Melanie Marshall has finished in third place to claim the bronze medal for England.

Roland Schoeman has beaten the three Australian swimmers in the Men’s 50m Butterfly to claim the gold medal for South Africa. Matthew Targett claims the silver with Matthew Welsh getting the bronze.

Lisbeth Lenton has set a new Games Record to win the Gold ahead of follow Australians Jodie Henry and Alice Mills who won the silver and bronze medals respectively, handing Australia all three medals in the women’s 100m Freestyle.

Gregor Tait has broken the Commonwealth Games record to claim the Gold Medal in the Men’s 200m Backstroke. Johannes Du Rand won another Silver Medal in the pool with New Zealander Cameron Gibson winning the bronze medal.

Matthew Clay from England has won the Gold Medal in the Men’s 50m Backstroke with team mate Liam Tancock taking the Silver. South African Johannes Zandberg finished in third place for the Bronze Medal.

Australian swimmer Iam Thorpe has been spending more time resting than training during the last week as he battles to overcome a bad case of bronchitis.
One of the big drawcards for the Commonwealth Games, Thorpe will race in the 100m and 200m freestyle.

Matt Rose heads to Melbourne, Australia today to prepare for his second Commonwealth Games.
At 24, Mr. Rose is entering his swimming prime. He says for power events like the ones he competes in - the 50- and 100-metre freestyle and backstroke - 25 is often considered a swimmer’s prime.
