New Zealand Win Gold in Women’s Shot Put

Valerie Vili from New Zealand has smashed the Commonwealth Games record to win the Gold medal with a distance of 19.66m. Silver medal winner was Vivien Chukwuemeka from Nigeria and the bronze went to Cleopatra Borel-Brown from Trinidad and Tobago.

Asti Poole throws herself into Games team

TOWNSVILLE athlete Asti Poole enjoyed one of the biggest highs of her life yesterday when she was named in the Australian Commonwealth Games team.
Poole, who will contest the women’s seated shot put, joins Townsville’s Tim Parravicini (long jump) and Jarrod Bannister (javelin) in the 123-member Australian athletics team.

Vili breaks record, again

New Zealand Shot putter Valerie Vili who is ranked second in the world is in strong form for medal contention after breaking the record she set in Hamilton recently by five centremetres. Her throw of 19.44 metres is 3.19m short of the World Record set in Moscow in 1987 by Natalya Lisovskaya.
