The New Zealand men’s hockey team has kept their hopes of making it to the finals after beating Canada 4-1 in their preliminary game this morning in Melbourne.
India and Malaysia have ended their Men’s Hockey pool match with a 1-1 draw. Goals went to Sandeep Singh for India and Amin Rahim Muhamad for Malaysia.
England has beaten New Zealand 4-3 in their Commonwealth Games preliminary pool match. Blair Hopping, Bevan Hari and Hayden Shaw all scored a goal each for New Zealand while Richard Alexander, Matthew Daly, Barry Middleton and Simon Mantell each scored for England.
Both Malaysia and Canada have beaten their opponents 4-0 in today’s hockey matches meaning Nigeria and Barbados have a lot of work to do if they want to finish in the top two of their group now that their points difference has taken a hammering.
New Zealand has named an experienced side to take on the rest of the Commonwealth at the Games in Melbourne including 10 players that were part of the team that came sixth at the Athens Olympics.
