Mahon beats cancer to earn spot in team

22 Year old Kate Mahon has been named in the New Zealand Women’s Hockey team, the black sticks for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Diagnosed with cancer in January 2004, Mahon has represented New Zealand at Under 18 and Under 21 level and wanted to be back for full time hockey by December 2004.

Donna-Lee Patrick out of Hockeyroos

Donna-Lee Patrick’s troublesome knee will see her watching the Commonwealth Games rather than participating in them now that she has been sent for surgery.
The injury, that has been diagnosed as deep bone bruising, will be operated on in the next couple of days.
