New Zealand has won the Gold medal in the Rugby Sevens over a vigilant English side who had beaten the favourites, Fiji. The winning performance also gives the Kiwis an unbeaten record at the Commonwealth Games since the sport was introduced at the Kuala Lumpur Games in 1998.

Australia have beaten South Africa in their Rugby Sevens Quarter Final and will face off against New Zealand who beat a confident Canadian side.
England beat Samoa in their quarterfinal in a match very similar to last night’s final minute win over Australia and will face Fiji in the Semis after they beat Wales.

All Black wing and Blues Super 14 player Doug Howlett will not appear at the Commonwealth Games, missing his chance to be part of the New Zealand Rugby Sevens team, after he suffered a hamstring injury in the Blues loss to the Crusaders in Christchurch over the weekend.

Veteran scrum half Morgan Williams will join the Canadian sevens rugby team for next month’s Commonwealth Games.
