Akos Sandor has won the Men’s 105kg Weightlifting event for Canada. Valeriane Sarava from Australia has won the silver medal and Che Mohd Azrol Bin Che Mat from Malaysia has won the bronze.

Deborah Esther Ainslie Lovely has won the Gold Medal for Australia in the 75kg Weightlifting event. Sheba Deireragea has won the silve and the first medal of the XVIII Commonwealth Games for Nauru and Babalwa Ndleleni has won the Bronze for South Africa.

Aleksan Karapetyan and Simon Francis Heffernan have won the Gold and Silver medals for Australia in the Men’s 94kg Weightlifting. Thomas Litster Yule has won the bronze medal for Scotland.

Apologies required

The substances found in the rooms used by the Australian Weightlifting have tested negative but the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority will hold an inquiry into the allegations. Meanwhile, the Australian Weightlifting chief has said they will demand an apology if no banned substances are found.

Powerlifter George Taamaru will line up in his second Commonwealth Games after today being confirmed in the team for Melbourne.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) in conjunction with Paralympics New Zealand today confirmed George in the team where he will compete in the Elite Athlete with Disability category.

Twin Dope Tests for Indian Weightlifters

After the fiasco at the Athens Olympics, the Indian Weightlifting Federation has decided to conduct two dope tests before clearing lifters for Melbourne.
The first dope test will be on the 7th of February for those selected.

Kunjarani certain to make it to Melbourne Commonwealth Games

Indian Weightlifter Kunjarani Devi is certain to make the Melbourne Games next year although she has been taking some time off to rest. Kunjarani won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and the 37 year old is once again a strong medal prospect for India.

New Zealand name four weightlifters

New Zealand will be represented by 4 weightlifters in Melbourne with two members of the team having lifted at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002. Grant Cavit finished sixth in the 85kg division while Keisha Dean Soffe finished 5th. Mark Spooner and Richard Patterson who are both 21 round out the team.
