Commonwealth Games Review

Akos Sandor has won the Men’s 105kg Weightlifting event for Canada. Valeriane Sarava from Australia has won the silver medal and Che Mohd Azrol Bin Che Mat from Malaysia has won the bronze.

Geeta Rani and Simple Kaur Bhumrah from India have won the Gold and Silver medals in the +75kg Weightlifting with New Zealand’s Keisha-Dean Soffe winning the bronze medal.

Deborah Esther Ainslie Lovely has won the Gold Medal for Australia in the 75kg Weightlifting event. Sheba Deireragea has won the silve and the first medal of the XVIII Commonwealth Games for Nauru and Babalwa Ndleleni has won the Bronze for South Africa.

Aleksan Karapetyan and Simon Francis Heffernan have won the Gold and Silver medals for Australia in the Men’s 94kg Weightlifting. Thomas Litster Yule has won the bronze medal for Scotland.

Shuja-Ud-Din Malik has won the Men’s 85kg Weightlifting event to claim the Gold medal for Pakistan. Cameroon’s Brice Vivien Batchaya and Simplice Ribouem have won the Silver and Bronze medals.

Michaela Alica Breeze has won Wales first Gold Medal of the XVIII Commonwealth Games with Canada adding another Silver and Bronze medal thanks to Christine Girard and Miel McGerrigle.

Majeti Fetrie has won Ghana’s first Gold medal of the XVIII Commonwealth Games in the Men’s 77kg Weightlifting competition. Mohammed Zakir Asdullah has won the Silver for India while Muhammad Irfan Irfan has won the bronze for Pakistan.

Yumnam Chanu has won the Gold Medal for India in the Women’s 58kg Weightlifting competition. Emily Beth Quarton has won the silver medal for Canada while Natasha Jane Barker from Australia has picked up the Bronze

The substances found in the rooms used by the Australian Weightlifting have tested negative but the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority will hold an inquiry into the allegations. Meanwhile, the Australian Weightlifting chief has said they will demand an apology if no banned substances are found.

Indian weightlifter Nameijakpam Kunjarani Devi has claimed the first Gold medal of the Commonwealth Games lifting 94 kilograms and retaining her title in the 48-kilogram division.

BOXER Robert Ellery and powerlifter Glen Puxley have both withdrawn from the Team Wales squad in Melbourne.

Powerlifter George Taamaru will line up in his second Commonwealth Games after today being confirmed in the team for Melbourne.

Indian Weightlifter Kunjarani Devi is certain to make the Melbourne Games next year although she has been taking some time off to rest. Kunjarani won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 and the 37 year old is once again a strong medal prospect for India.

New Zealand will be represented by 4 weightlifters in Melbourne with two members of the team having lifted at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002. Grant Cavit finished sixth in the 85kg division while Keisha Dean Soffe finished 5th. Mark Spooner and Richard Patterson who are both 21 round out the team.
