Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony Live Preview
I’ll be live blogging the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games as they unfold on my TV set. I expect that the coverage will start live and get progressively delayed as they cut to advertising every two minutes to capitalise on their captive audience.
Stay with me as I bring you the commentary as it happens.
Our pre-games coverage has started in New Zealand with the run down about what we’re expecting to see during the next 12 days.
Apparently there are going to be 80,000 inside the stadium but an estimated 100,000 are expected outside the stadium and along the banks of the Yarra River.
We can hear the MC’s at the stadium hyping the crowd up and getting them to cheer on the count of three.
We’re 25 minutes out from the start of Melbourne’s 12 days in the spotlight.
I must say that I can’t stand the outfit that the TV network has the presenters decked out in. Beige was barely passable in the 70’s and only thanks to New Zealand cricket.
10 minutes out and it’s all ra ra ra so far. According to the presenter who went to the dress rehearsal, the organisers were very happy with the way it went.
I must say that it’s been funny hearing about all the media stuff relating to the opening ceremony how that many media outlets know what is coming up but have been threatened with being stripped of their accreditation if they revealed anything. However, I’ve heard plenty today on talkback and on Sky news about the 71 Giant fish on the Yarra river, one for each country, and the flying trams.
It’s almost 10:30pm here, 8:30pm AEDT. Time for the opening ceremony.
