Doping worry haunts Games
A NEW undetectable drug threatens to undermine the credibility of the Commonwealth Games with an Australian blood doping expert yesterday warning that rogue athletes have been trying to buy the product.
Robin Parisotto, the principal researcher behind creating a test in 2000 for the oxygen-boosting drug EPO, says concerns are growing that drug cheats have access to the gene therapy drug Repoxygen.
The drug stimulates EPO production - dramatically increasing haemoglobin or oxygen levels in the body - and is an even cheaper option than EPO, the illegal drug used most commonly by endurance athletes.
