Doubts cast over Games regional security
The Liberal Party is doubting the State Government’s commitment to security at country Commonwealth Games events.
Private firms are being paid $19 million to provide security.
But the Opposition spokesman for the Commonwealth Games, Gordon Rich-Phillips, says only less than 1 per cent of that money will cover security at Geelong events.
With less than $200,000 being spent in Geelong and a similar amount in Ballarat, Rich-Phillips believes the Government needs to explain why so little money is being contributed to these fringe venues.
