Games athletes put on notice
SOME of Australia’s track and field athletes have been told they are “bloody lucky” to be in the Commonwealth Games team and to stop celebrating their inclusion.
The athletics team, the nation’s largest ever at a Commonwealth Games, has been given a blunt warning from the man chiefly responsible for its selection - Athletics Australia’s national performance manager, Max Binnington.
Binnington said the Commonwealths were a crucial phase in preparing for next year’s world championships and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
