Nederpelt Australia’s hope for Games 1500m
It is the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games that Australia has relied on a qualifier from another event to contest the distance event but little-known West Australian medley specialist Travis Nederpelt will carry Australia’s slim 1500m hopes at the March Commonwealth Games after all eight swimmers in last night’s National final failed to crack the qualifying mark of 15min 15sec.
Nederpelt placed second in last nigt’s final in an unimpressive 15.28.65 – well outside the required mark – but will still line up for the 30-lap event in March after qualifying for the national team in the 200m fly and the 200 individual medley early last week.
