Olympic Committee of Malaysia bypasses gold medal winning weightlifter
Mohamed Hidayat must be a little confused after his exclusion from the Malaysian weightlifting team for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, considering he was the gold medal winner at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games and has already qualified for Melbourne.
Instead, the Olympic Council of Malaysia has selected Mohamed Faizal Baharom (56 kg), Naharuddin Mahayuddin (62 kg), Che Azrol Che Mat (over-105 kg), Zaira Zakaria (48 kg) and Nurul Farhana (63 kg).
An appeal for Mohamed’s inclusion has been made. The Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU) has also appealed for the inclusion of walker Mohd Shahrulhaizy Abdul Rahman for the Games in the 20km walk.
