Scots not good enough for games
An 11th hour appeal to the Commonwealth Games council by Table Tennis Scotland has been rejected on the grounds that the team were not genuine medal contenders and therefore not worth the necessary expense to get them to Melbourne.
Euan Walker, the Scottish #1 is ranked 316 in the world while his team mate Niall Cameron is ranked 853. Although Walker managed to reach the final 16 in the individual competition in Manchester and fifth in the team event, the odds of them reaching the podium are not in their favour, ultimately leading to the decision by the council not to send the team.
In response, Table Tennis Scotland’s Chairman Willie Wilson has resigned in protest citing “discrimination” against his game.
