South Africans fare well at champs
Geraldine Pillay blitzed her way to wins in the 100m and 200m events at the third 2006 Athletics South Africa (ASA) Champions Challenge at the Coetzenburg Stadium last night. This was Pillay’s first run on home soil after returning from a three month training spell in the US. In windy conditions, she clocked 11.79 seconds and 23.50 seconds in her respective races.
Shaun Bownes, the Commonwealth Games 110m hurdles champion, ran a 14.13 race to take first place. Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, the world indoor and Commonwealth 800m champion, excelled in the 1 500m. He came first in a time of 344.67 sec. Shot putter Janus Roberts continued with his good form, after winning the Pretoria meeting he was an easy winner last night.
