Spare a thought for Namibia
While many nations have large amounts of money poured into training and preparation for the Commonwealth Games, spare a thought for the athletes from Namibia whose codes have yet to receive a cent.
The codes that will be represented at the Games have been running training programs on their own budgets but many simply can not cope.
54 athletes will represent the country in eight codes including athletics, boxing, shooting, gymnastics, bowling, cycling and rugby but many are in disarray as they cannot afford transport costs to training grounds or have access to training facilities.
The Namibian National Olympic Committee is yet to name any athlete, however officials have been named at a lavish event.
N$1.4m was supposed to be released for the Games by the Government but is expected that it will be ‘very last minute’.
