Sports administrators becoming jittery about Commonwealth Games participation
While the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) awaits word from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports on financial assistance for Guyana’s 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games team, some sports administrators are becoming apprehensive.
On Monday GOA Presi-dent K. Juman-Yassin and General Secretary Ivor O’Brien told Stabroek Sport they are still awaiting word from Minister of Sports Anthony Xavier on whether government will contribute to the 25-member team’s participation in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Last month, Juman-Yassin told Stabroek Sport his association would pay part of the required cost to send athletes to the Games, but they are hoping that the government would make a contribution so that Guyana could send a complement of 25 persons.
