Going for broke: Credit card companies big winners in bankruptcy reform
‘Washington’s new bankruptcy bill isn’t perfect.
But for the credit card companies, it still looks like the best law money can buy.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit organization that tracks money in political campaigns, card companies and other lenders spent $7.8 million on Federal candidates last election alone.
The biggest recipient: President Bush [related, bio], whose campaign got $640,975. U.S. Sen. John Kerry [related, bio] (D-Mass.) came second. MBNA Corp, the biggest card issuer, spent $1.54 million overall. These sums include donations by employees and by political action committees’
