Depression never gets old
‘More than 7 million Americans over the age of 65 suffer from depression, according to the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), a part of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
But depression isn’t part of the normal aging process.
Most older adults have experienced the loss of a loved one, suffered from physical ailments and at times felt separated from their younger selves. Such events can bring sadness and grief, but those feelings usually go away.
Depression, on the other hand, significantly affects a person’s ability to function normally over time. And it often goes undetected.’
