Lack of care adding to depression among elderly
‘The Department of Geriatric and Mental Health of the King George’s Medical University on Monday celebrated its first foundation day by organising lectures of Dr George T Grossberg, director, Geriatric Psychiatry, St. Louis University, USA. These lectures were organised on topics-‘Depression and Medical Comorbidity: A world-wide challenge’’ and ‘‘Can we prevent Alzheimer’s disese: Recent undertakings and potential breakthroughs.’’
In his lecture, Dr Grossberg informed that 61 per cent of the world’s suicides occured in Asia and around 40 per cent of the suicides in India had a diagnosis of depression. Moreover, he informed that suicidal tendency among eldery was also increasing.’
