Mental health issues for gays and lesbians
‘A new study shows gays and lesbians are at greater risk of developing mental health issues.
Researchers at the University of Otago surveyed 1,000 Christchurch-born young people and found homosexual activity and orientation are associated with increasing rates of depression, anxiety, illicit drug dependence suicidal thoughts and attempts.
Those most affected appear to be gay males, who were five times more likely to have mental health problems as young heterosexual males.’
