Music may reduce chronic pain
‘Listening to music may help to reduce chronic pain by up to 21% and depression by up to 25%, new research has found.
Music also appears to make people feel more in control of their pain and less disabled by their condition.
A team of researchers carried out a controlled clinical trial with 60 people. The average age of those taking part was 50 and all were recruited from pain and chiropractic clinics.
They had been suffering from a range of painful conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis and disc problems, for an average of six years. Most said that the pain affected more than one part of their body, while 95% said it was continuous.’
