Task force to tackle best ways to treat depression
‘A task force of mental health experts will deliver early next year a comprehensive strategy to deal with the treatment of depression in Ontario.
One of a series of panels that are looking into various “chronic” illnesses for the provincial health ministry, the group will deliver its findings on the best practices to treat the crippling mental illness by late January, according to one of the task force members.
“(We are) looking at what are the best treatment methodologies that people know about in the world today … all of the angles you can think of,” says Glenn Thompson, interim head of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
“Then there’s the development of a fairly high-level strategy that would say, `Well, all right, given all that, here’s what we think a government ought to fund, or ought to do, and fund others to do,’” Thompson says.’
