79.8% of 18-24 year olds us Instant Messaging

A study by Big Research has found that the biggest users of Instant Messaging are in the 18-24 year old bracket with 79.8% of them saying that they regularly or occasionally use IM. The percentage of those using IM decreases the older that people get with 68.3% of 25-34 year olds using it, 58.1% of 35-54 year olds using Instant Messaging and 43.1% of the 55+ age group utilizing it.
