Enterprise IM for BlackBerry to be Microsoft powered
According to ADTmag.com, Microsoft and Research In Motion (RIM) have teamed up to provide enterprise IM and presence to BlackBerry users based on the backend of the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server along with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Live Communications Server provides a platform for the development of custom real-time communications solutions across PC networks, desktop phone systems and mobile devices and is based on Session Initiation Protocol and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions standards.
The partnership will let BlackBerry users use IM and share other presence information with anyone - it’s great for people who travel a lot and need to be connected with the office while they are away.
Trial should be available in September of this year.
