Security: ‘Star Wars’ Worm Targets AOL, Yahoo IM Services
‘When an IM user clicks the link in the AOL message, a malicious code is downloaded to the user’s PC. The code is installed and the worm sends itself to all of the victim’s contacts, the report said. In the Yahoo instant message, the link leads to a site designed to look like a real Yahoo Web site, but is in fact part of a phishing scheme to steal log-in information.
U.S. computer security companies warn a new worm and a phishing scam are targeting America Onlin and Yahoo (Nasdaq: YHOO) instant messaging network members.
In both cases, members get an instant message reportedly with an apparent reference to the newly released “Star Wars” movie.
Jon Sakoda at IMLogic, a Campbell, Calif.-based instant messaging security company, said these messages encourage receivers to click on a link.’
