Apple Updates iBook Range
So it turns out that the rumors were false, and there was no widescreen iBooks released, but they were updated, and WhatLaptop has some information on them.
‘In a move that both streamlines and updates its iBook laptop line-up, Apple recently unveiled plans for its renowned range for the coming months. By upgrading the processors, memory allocation and graphics adapters in all iBook systems, the move takes Apple towards an increased level of power and performance as standard.
Trimming the range down to just two laptops, consumers will have the choice of an entry-level model with a 12-inch screen, and a more powerful 14-inch version. Updating the G4 processors used by its iBook laptops, the 12-inch model will ship with 1.33GHz CPU, while the 14-inch iBook sees its processor bumped up to 1.42GHz.
All laptops now carry 512MB of DDR SDRAM as standard, although this can be increased to 1.5GB if required. Also adding increased performance and usability is the inclusion of an ATi Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics chip and a scrolling trackpad previously only seen on the Apple PowerBook range. Aiding ease of use, the trackpad allows users to scroll around the screen with one finger and scroll through documents when two-fingered pressure is applied.
Incorporating 802.11g Wi-Fi and BASE-T 10/100 Ethernet as standard, both iBook’s will also come preinstalled with Apple’s latest operating system, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.’
