Life sentence for life-insurance killer
An Alameda man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering his girlfriend and her daughter in a scheme to collect life insurance.
Victor Samuel Davis, 43, was convicted of fatally stabbing Jennifer Perry, 38, of Newark, and her developmentally disabled daughter, Regina Freeland, 20, of San Pablo.
On Thursday, Solano County Superior Court Judge James Moelk handed down a life sentence. The judge, sitting without a jury at Davis’ request, had found Davis guilty of the slayings earlier this year.
Perry’s body was found in a Vallejo motel on June 3, 2001. Nine days later, Freeland was found dead along the Emeryville waterfront near the Chevy’s restaurant.
Shortly before the women died, Davis was named as a beneficiary in four of Jennifer Perry’s life insurance policies totaling $900,000, court records show.
