Palm Treo 680 Review The Age

Treo-680
The Age reviews the Palm Treo 680 and writes - “The Treo ticks off just about every item on the smartphone checklist, from reading and editing Office documents to playing MP3 music and video clips. It uses the slower GSM network rather than 3G but this is not an issue for casual emailing. The same goes for the lack of Wi-Fi in order to reduce the unit’s cost and complexity. You are more likely to be disappointed by the VGA camera; it’s not bad in itself but it’s easily outclassed by the multi-megapixel cameras in most mobile phones.”

Palm Treo 680 Review

Treo-680Palm Infocenter reviews the Palm Treo 680 and writes - “Treo 680 brings a much needed slimmer look and feel to the Treo line at a very nice price point. While still not the flashiest or thinnest smartphone out there, the Treo 680 still demonstrates why the Treo leads with its ease of use, large software library and powerful functionality. To trim the size a significant battery life compromise had to be made which may be a deal breaker for some. However the lighter load on your wallet and pocket make up for keeping a spare battery close at hand. Technical nitpicking aside, the Treo 680 is a very powerful smartphone that is a very capable and easy to use.”

Nokia 870 Internet Tablet

Nokia-870Engadget has pictures of the yet to be relased Nokia 870 Internet Tablet:

“We knew it was shiny, but that was about it. Now we’ve got ourselves a few more angles of Nokia’s upcoming 870 Internet Tablet, and a few more specs to be getting on with. As noted last time around, Nokia’s main addition here is a fancy new webcam, which can apparently rotate to face towards or away from the user. According to our anonymous tipster, things have pepped up quite considerably under the hood, and internal memory has been bumped to 180MB, but the architecture is relatively unchanged.”

Latest Treo a big hit for Palm

‘When Palm Inc. takes a big swing, it usually connects. I can’t remember the last time the company whiffed.

Their latest out-of-the-park achievement, available now, is the Treo 680, a mobile phone that seems to defy gravity, if not expectations. Gone is the nubby antenna; instead, there’s a smooth shape and no “handle,” as some users call it.

Memory available to users is double: 64 megabytes versus 32 MB for the Treo 650. Battery life seems longer, and you can, with the appropriate data plan from your carrier, use this as a wireless Bluetooth modem for your computer.

This is a GSM/GPRS phone, which means it can be used overseas, subject to your carrier’s plans or the purchase of an appropriate “SIM” card for your phone from another carrier. ‘

PDA sales at record high of 3.7 million units in Q2

‘Worldwide sales of PDAs, or personal digital assistants, rose to a record high of 3.7 million units in the second quarter of 2006, up 2.7 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2006.

According to market research firm Gartner, the sales were driven by the ongoing integration of wide area network technology in PDAs along with the marketing efforts of the firms manufacturing these devices. However, revenue from this segment fell 4.1 per cent to $1.38 billion. Gartner pointed out that compared to the second quarter of 2005, the average selling price of a PDA fell 6 per cent to $373, mostly because of old product lines and rebates offered by wireless providers.’

Treo 700P

Spungle reviews the Treo 700p and writes - ‘So, in conclusion, we love it. It’s better than the 650 hands down. It’s more stable, it doesn’t reboot all the time, it has a cleaner feel, it supports 2gb cards, and it’s by far the most desired phone on the market. However, we also believe that this is a work in progress. We expect to see revisions with WiFi support via SD, a processor bump to 624mhz, a memory jump to 256, Bluetooth voice dialing support, and battery power that rivals the Blackberry. So, until we our dream device is released, this will do, because good luck finding anything better, and anything hotter than this!’
