BlackBerry maker RIM holds lead as PDA sales jump
‘Global sales of personal digital assistants (PDAs) hit a record 14.9 million last year, with Canadian-based Research in Motion’s BlackBerry leading the market, a survey showed.
Gartner Inc. said the sales for 2005 represented a 19 percent increase from 2004 and topped the previous record of 13.2 million PDAs shipped worldwide in 2001.
Research In Motion (RIM) accounted for 21.4 percent of the market, with its shipments up 47 percent from 2004, despite concerns about a patent dispute that could lead to a shutdown of BlackBerry service in the United States.’
