Palm Z22

Palm-Z22-1Mobile Review has news of a new Palm PDA - the Palm Zire Z22 - a color screen PDA that is expected to come down (after an initial launch) in price to under $100 USD. They write:

‘The cSTN screen is equal to the one in the Zire 31 showing 4096 colours. The memory size grew to 20 MB available to a user, even at complete discharge of the battery your data won’t be lost (NVFS, like in all the latest Palm models). You will find the processor Samsung 200 MHz more than enough for normal functioning of the device. The operating system is Palm OS Garnet 5.4. The miniUSB connector is used for charging and synchronizing….’

MNBC previews the Palm Z22 and writes - ‘Everything about the Z22 is aimed at users who would rather not bother. There’s not only a booklet on how to run the Z22, but there’s also an easy-to-follow three-step set-up poster, an on-device quick tour and a Getting Started guide for both your PC and the PDA.’

CNET reviews the Palm Z22 pda and writes - ‘Although the technology world focuses largely on the latest features and the flashiest design, there are many consumers who don’t need or want all the bells and whistles. With PDAs, this means stripping away the wireless connectivity and multimedia features and going back to the core function of a handheld: organization. And this is exactly what the new Palm Z22 does. Targeting first-time handheld users, parents, and students, this $99 device has no tricks or gimmicks. It organizes your most important data–contacts, appointments, and so forth–and lets you view photographs, but that’s about it. It’s even more basic than the company’s previous entry-level model, the Palm Zire 31. Still, if you’re ready to graduate from your day planner to a PDA, the Z22 is a good start.’

Mobile Tech Review has reviewed the Pam Z22 and writes - ‘A great unit for those who still haven’t gotten into PDAs but want to be more organized and know their data is securely synced to their desktop. It’s small, light, durable and attractive. Great starter PDA for kids (yes, it can play games!). Very affordable. Light, small and attractive alternative to carrying around paper-based address books, organizers and scraps of paper. Since your data is synced to your computer, it’s safe even if the PDA is lot or broken, unlike paper-based products. Makes a nice portable digital photo album, though the screen won’t knock your socks off.

Bargain PDA reviews the Palm Z22 and writes - ‘So what is my final opinion about the Z22, the newest entry level PDA from Palm? Well, honestly, I like it. I think for those just looking for a simple organizer to compliment their goings and comings or to replace paper, it works just great. For a college student or soccer mom, or someone who hasn’t yet embraced a PDA, the Z22 is a well made and inexpensive device to own. Programs such as AddIt and the enhanced PIM applications, the non-volatile memory, outstanding battery life, well executed design and light weight, will make the Z22 a hit for this holiday season for many a gift giver. And at $99, it’s a heck of a nice gift price for all that it can bring to one’s life.’

PC Mag reviews the Palm Z22 and writes - ‘Pundits say basic PDAs like the Z22 should be dead now that cell phones have PDA functions, but we disagree. Most phone PDAs are difficult to use and even more difficult to sync. The Z22 is a simple, easy-to-use device for non-techies who want to stay organized, play a few games, and read a few e-books. The Z22’s friendly design, simple software and reasonable power make it the best entry-level PDA and a fine follow-up to the Zire 31.’

The Gadgeteer reviews the Palm Z22 and writes - ‘Yes, the Z22’s hardware is a really bare bones PDA. You don’t get an expansion slot (SD), an earphone jack, Bluetooth or WiFi. But what do you expect for $99? What you do get is a solid little PDA with a color display, great battery life, 20 megs of available storage and a reasonably snappy little processor. The Z22 would be perfect for anyone that is anxious to check out what a PDA can do for them, without breaking the bank.’

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Palm Zire 22 PDA and writes - ‘The Zire series from palm was born to offer low cost PDA computing to the masses. But Zires grew up and, like children, they got complicated and lost their naïve charm. For example, the last model, the Zire 72, offered music playing and a built in camera. Somewhere, palm lost the whole concept of what the original Zires were all about: low cost, low learning curve PDAs with uncomplicated features and ease of use…. It has its faults, but nit picking aside if you analyse the Z22 from the point of view of a newcomer to PDA-land, who wants a simple electronic organiser, then the device stacks up fairly well, both in terms of costs and features.’
