Sony abandons PDA market
‘Sony Corp. said Wednesday it would stop making personal digital assistants for Japan as early as July, marking its complete withdrawal from the declining handheld computer industry.
The Tokyo-based electronics giant already pulled out of the overseas market last year so its move to end production of its Clie handheld in Japan was widely expected.
Sony still leads the domestic market for PDAs but decided to withdraw because it expected the business to be unprofitable amid severe competition, Sony spokesman Taichi Yamafuji said.’
