Medicaid Preferred Drug List Extended - Florida
‘State health officials have added five widely used mental health drugs to the Medicaid preferred drug list, allowing doctors to begin prescribing them for Medicaid patients immediately without special permission from the state.
Lamictal, Lexapro, Paxil CR, Wellbutrin XL and Zoloft now appear on the preferred drug list for Medicaid patients, the Agency for Health Care Administration announced Friday. Lamictal is a treatment for both epilepsy and bipolar disorder; the other four are antidepressants.
The Medicaid program has long included a list of drugs that physicians can prescribe for Medicaid patients without special authorization. Historically, mental health drugs have been excluded from the preferred list restriction, allowing doctors to prescribe them freely.’
