Crippled Iraqi hopes Pope will bring her healing
‘A crippled 4-year-old Iraqi girl and Pope John Paul are both praying for a miracle of healing, floors apart at Rome’s Gemelli hospital.
“As we are both in the same hospital, I hope that we both realise our dreams,” said Diar, partially paralysed by a bomb blast in the Iraqi city of Nassiriya last year.
Speaking through a translator she said she hoped “God will think about both of us, save both of us”.
The 84-year-old Pope was rushed to hospital on Thursday with breathing problems and could stay there for some weeks as he recovers from a tracheotomy operation to help air to his lungs.
Diar was hurt when a bomb exploded in her bedroom as Italian forces fought back Iraqi insurgents. Shrapnel tore into her spine and cut off movement in one of her legs.
Diar and her grandfather were flown to Rome on Saturday and will see specialists at the Gemelli on Monday’
