Canon PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One

Canon PIXMA MP830 Incorporated into the sleek design of the PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One is a printer, copier, scanner, and fax capable of creating long-lasting photographs as well as color and black and white documents. It is a next generation All-In-One device designed for desktops, but with business in mind.

Calling upon its award-winning copier-manufacturing heritage, Canon’s new MP830 AIO is a productivity powerhouse with exceptional speed and efficiency. The MP830 unit provides users with an automatic document feeder (ADF) that can copy or scan both sides of a document automatically. The Auto Duplexing feature permits two-sided copying/scanning, without the need to manually turn over pages and re-feed the document. Customers are able to print two-sided documents automatically as well. What’s more, the ADF is capable of handling up to 35 sheets of letter-sized paper for copying, scanning, or faxing. For large volume print jobs, the PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One features a two way paper feed with a capacity of up to 300 sheets of letter-sized paper. On-unit control options include an Auto Exposure Copy function that can alter the density and contrast of a document, an improved PDF creation function (compared to previous software versions) when the unit is in scanning mode and a “push scan” option that makes it easy to send an image to a computer as a file or an email attachment.

When used as a document printer the PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One shifts into overdrive, generating vibrant black and white documents at a rate of up to 30(1) ppm and brilliant color documents at up to 24(1) ppm. In copy mode, the PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One tops out at up to 29(1) copies(1)-per-minute (cpm) (monochrome) and up to 24(1)-color cpm. Canon even designed the unit’s color Super G3 fax(6) with speed, and ease of use in mind. It includes features that allow users to receive up to 250 incoming pages; one-touch speed dialing (eight numbers) and a coded speed dial function that can store up to 100 locations.

In stores beginning in mid-March, the new PIXMA MP830 Office All-In-One and the new networking PIXMA MP800R Photo All-In-One carry an estimated selling price of $299.99(8) and $399.99(8), respectively.

PCMag reviews the Canon Pixma MP830 and gives it an Editor’s Choice award: “Text quality is a bit of a mixed bag. Using a highly stylized test font with thick strokes, letters tended to merge even at 12 points, but for fonts you’re more likely to use in an office setting, quality is among the best I’ve seen from an ink jet. More than half of our test fonts were easily readable at 5 points, with several even readable at a tiny 4 points. … With this combination of speed, output quality, and features, the Canon Pixma MP830 is not only easy to recommend, it’s a clear Editors’ Choice winner as a top-of-the-line personal AIO.”

CNET Asia reviews the Canon PIXMA MP830 and writes, “To the naked eye, the Canon PIXMA MP830’s black text looks good. The letters are well formed and the edges smooth. Under a loupe, however, we noticed that the edges weren’t as clean as we’d thought. At very small point sizes, this problem becomes worse. The quality further degrades with color graphics prints, which mixes text and graphical elements. The text here has noticeable–to the naked eye–jagged edges at all point sizes. In fact, nearly everywhere that there was black ink, we saw fuzzy edges. Additionally, the black was a bit washed-out. It also had some trouble with the shadows of the color graphics, losing some details to general darkness. … The Canon PIXMA MP830 is a good option for a single home or office user who doesn’t need high-quality graphics prints. If you need better graphics handling or networking, check out the HP OfficeJet 7410.”

Trusted Reviews reviews the Canon PIXMA MP830 and writes, “The black print cost is now good for an ink-jet, multi-function device, but the colour cost has only dropped from very pricey to pricey. It’s useful to have a separate pigmented black ink for printing text, though, as you won’t have to change cartridges as often in normal, home office use. … The extras on offer from this multi-function device are useful, though duplex print is a bit of a let down, because of its poor speed. Even so, the PIXMA MP830 feels like a proper piece of office equipment, rather than a light use, home-office device. A little pricey to print colour on, but overall, a useful all-in-one.”

ITReviews reviews the Canon PIXMA MP830 and writes, “Print quality is generally good, with sharp black text and smoothly coloured graphics. Photo prints come out well rendered, with natural blending from shade to shade, but again, duplex pages are not up to the standard of single-sided prints. The costs of the ink cartridges and Canon glossy photo paper give page costs of 2.4p and 36p for 5 percent black and 20 percent colour pages, respectively. The black print rate is reasonable, but the colour cost is on the high side … The PIXMA MP830 sits at the top of Canon’s range of home and home office multifunction devices and the specification list shows enough goodies to get you interested. In most ways it fulfils its promise, though its ability to print on both sides of the paper is disappointingly slow.”
