Check around to keep printer expenses in check - Cheap Ink Cartridges
‘Between homework and home-office assignments, the family computer can burn a lot of ink. A replacement cartridge for either color or black ink can cost $12 to $40, depending on the printer model. But computer mavens offer a menu of solutions — and words of caution — about cheaper alternatives.
The Internet provides access to a variety of online vendors, who sell ink cartridges at prices 50 percent to 80 percent below standard rates. These vendors sell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges, essentially name-brand products that sport corporate logos from Canon, Epson, IBM and other makers of computer printers.
You can also buy so-called ”remanufactured cartridges,” ink replacement units that have been recycled and meet or exceed standards set by original equipment manufacturers, as well as ”compatible” cartridges, generic units. The ”compatible” units work well, cost less and are often produced by the same companies that produce the brand-name products.
That’s the word from home-office computer geeks, who spend a lot of time tinkering with family network systems. (You can find online vendors by doing a Google search for ink cartridges).’
