Debbie Schlussel on Howard Stern and Satellite Radio
When Howard Stern goes to air in a little over a week he will no longer have to worry about being disciplined by the FCC and as Debbie Schlussel points out in an entertaining read on frontpagemag.com, Stern is about to suffer the wrath of the Orthodox Liberal Left.
Schlussel, who recorded a pilot for XM Satellite Radio’s women’s channel offended the liberal programming director with comments about women with tattoos and fat women which were obviously not politically correct enough for her.
One thing she said that had me in hysterics was when she referred to something Hilary Clinton had said in the news about how supermodels are a negative influence on our daughters, causing them to be anorexic. Schlussel said that she found that odd given that over 60 percent of Americans are obese - evidently an epidemic - and that perhaps Americans needed to get more anorexic than not. The response from the ultra liberal director was priceless claiming Schlussel was being irresponsible and that she hoped she would show more responsibilty on air which, as Schlussel points out, implies that the millions of girls not listening to her “women’s channel” who aren’t even part of the demographic would become skin and bone.
Schlussel goes on with a number of other funny stories about dealing with liberal and PC concerns which is something that Stern is going to become familiar with if he isn’t already. Not that I think he is going to care though.
The more the liberals kick up a fuss, the more publicity and interest they will create for both Stern and Sirius which just makes the commercial move so incredibly smart on the part of Sirius.
If it wasn’t for the outspoken responses from the liberal left I do tend to wonder if Stern would be as successful as he is. All publicity is good publicity. Roll on January 9th.
