Don’t regulate satellite radio as per FM: WorldSpace
As it gears up for a wider foothold in India, satellite radio provider WorldSpace has said it should not be regulated on the lines of FM radio and has sought relaxation on a host of issues, including foreign ownership and carriage of news and current affairs programmes.
In its response to TRAI’s consultation paper on satellite radio, the lone player in the segment has said subscription radio services should be treated differently from the existing analogue services since such programming is not disseminated or transmitted to the general public.
On whether satellite radio should be regulated on the lines of private FM broadcasters, WorldSpace has advocated against it.
