Howard Stern not ‘technically’ available in Canada
Howard Stern disappeared from Canadian radio in September 1997 after the CRTC decided that the extremely edited version of his morning show breached broadcast standards but despite SIRIUS Canada not carrying Stern’s channels on their side of the border, some smart Canadians are signing up for the US service by submitting US billing addresses.
Greg Quill, entertainment columnist for the Toronto Star writes a fascinating piece about the history of Sterns depature from Canadian airwaves and his upcoming revival and the implications of not carrying Stern’s channels has for the Canadian arm and the estimated 80,000 Canadian subscribers to SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
