Telkom ‘Surprise Winner’ in VOIP Stakes
Far from being a threat to its dominant market position, the expected surge in usage of voice over internet protocol (VOIP) this year is set to provide a huge boost to fixed-line phone provider Telkom, a survey released yesterday suggests.
Currently VOIP can be used legally in SA only to channel calls within an organisation’s own network to reduce the cost of calls between branches and offices. But from February 1 it will become legal to use it for all calls.
