VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) allows voice to travel over a packet data network at the same time as traditional data packets. In other words, VoIP offers phone calls via the internet or other digital networks. VoIP offers many benefits for users - the main one being reduced costs. VoIP eliminates long distance fees - you just pay a flat monthly Internet access fee. But that’s not the only reason people are turning to VoIP - because it’s digital, there are countless applications that can be built and added on such as phone numbers that travel with you, presence-aware telephones (which re-route to where you are), Web-enabled call centers, and much more.
