Pre-WiMax Solution

Now here’s a smart city, getting everything in place for WiMax:

The City of Quitman, GA is the latest municipality to add broadband access for the city and surrounding community. The City contracted with Camvera Networks (formerly Tri-State Broadband) to design and deploy their new wireless broadband system, complementing their existing Cable service to residents. Quitman is the first Camvera/Tri-State market to roll out the integration of the Navini Networks Ripwave(TM) Element Management System (EMS) with Rodopi Software’s EasyOSS billing and ISP automation application.

This eliminates the need to learn and maintain two or three disparate systems in order to keep track of provisioning, billing, and customer accounts.

“Navini Networks delivers portable plug and play broadband wireless internet access with a pre-WiMAX solution today,” said Sai Subramanian, vice president, product management, Navini Networks. “With our smart antenna technology, we will enable the people of Quitman to evolve to mobile WiMAX in the future.”

This is significant because with portable plug and play broadband, Quitman will not only achieve the same speeds of DSL or cable modem broadband access but will have a clean evolution to Mobile WiMAX as that standard matures, allowing them to move quickly and easily to mobility.
